A COLLECTIVE VOICE FOR BANDS
The Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) brings together the country's musical bands under one platform. It represents their shared interests, strengthens the band music community and works to preserve and promote Bangladesh's band music heritage.
THE STORY BEHIND BAMBA
FROM A CALL TO HELP, TO A MOVEMENT UNITED
BAMBA's story began with a humanitarian cause. In 1987, as devastating floods affected communities across Bangladesh, Rebecca Hossain and Hamin Ahmed helped bring the country's leading bands together for a charity initiative to support the victims. The concert demonstrated what musicians could achieve when they united behind a common cause.
The following year, Renaissance musician Feisal Siddiqui Bogey proposed bringing the country's bands together under one organisation. His initiative led to discussions among musicians and the formation of a collective platform for Bangladesh's growing band music community. Bogey became BAMBA's first convener, while Maqsoodul Haque became its first president.
In 1991, BAMBA adopted its first constitution and held its first election, with Hamin Ahmed becoming its first elected president. What began as a humanitarian initiative had grown into an organisation representing the shared interests and aspirations of Bangladesh's bands.
